Flaskback: There he was, my husband of only a few days now, standing on the Italian subway train – staring out the window in fear and desperation as the train began to move away and I stood still on the platform alone.

At the sound of the train doors closing, he had sped ahead and made his way through the doors in the nick of time, turning back to find I had not been right behind him as he had thought. I’ll never forget the color draining from his face as he realized he was carrying both our phones, our map, and the key to our hotel.

And while he was incredibly stressed he would never see me again, I was strangely at ease. You see, I was wearing my Road ID (that’s right, I’ve had one for years) and this is something I strongly recommend for any solo travelers (or those suddenly made solo by their husband’s shenanigans). The band can be worn and attached to many of your devices such as your Fitbit, apple watch, you can even get one to strap to your shoes or on your dog’s collar. You can get your band engraved to contain important information such as your name, emergency contact, allergies, blood type, and so much more.

But why am I advertising Road ID to you, why do you really need it? Well, it’s because each year over 450,000 of us are taken to hospitals unconscious and without ID. Year after year, over 122,000 runners, walkers, and cyclists are hit by cars. Thousands more suffer blackouts, concussions, heart attacks, heat strokes and other serious accidents and they have no id on them and it is not possible to identify them of their families. I don’t want you to be one of those people!

When the next train came, I got on it – only to then realize despite hours of planning, my husband had put us in the wrong direction.I love that man…but he has no sense of direction. But still, I knew everything would be okay. When it came down to it, I had his number on my Road ID and he had the maps to find his way home. And when the train made its next stop, I saw his relieved face in the next cart over and I laughed as I knew he had been freaking out. While during the whole adventure I had been riding along calmly.

So, I can’t stress enough, I highly recommend to any solo female travelers, couples, or anyone in general that you should purchase a Road ID to help you and your loved ones live everyday confidently while feeling covered and safe. Also, just so you know… Between 11/19 and 11/23, take advantage of two special offers! When you buy one Road ID product, you’ll get each additional Road ID product for 50% off!
