Monday Musings, Volume 16

monday musings volume 16

I’ve been awake since 5:30 and all I want to do is go take a nap. It’s also rainy and gloomy outside so I think I may work from bed today! I hope your Monday is off to a better start than mine!

AROUND THE WEB:

If you’ve followed along on Instagram Stories for awhile then you will know that I swear by dry brushing! I think it is a very important part of your beauty routine and I love it. I’ve always just dry brushed my dry skin and then put coconut oil on my skin before I got out of the shower but I ran across this article that suggested putting body oil on the dry brush. I’m not sure how I feel about this but I think I’m going to give it a try and use my favorite Aveda oil.

If you’ve been here awhile you know that I am a big advocate for mental health and finding ways to make every day a little easier. Studies show that there is one nutrient you are probably not getting enough of in your diet that is affecting your mental health. That nutrient is Magnesium. Magnesium is said to help regulate your bodies response to stress and help keep stress hormones from entering your brain. I’m all for giving things a try so I ordered a bottle for myself and I’m going to do a bullet mood journal for a month and see if I notice any changes in my moods. I’ll be sure to keep you updated and do an article on the experience later.

WEEKEND RECAP:

Friday night we stayed in and Eddie made us homemade fettucini alfredo. He used fresh made pasta and I swear to you it was the best meal I have ever had! I managed to coerce a full body massage out of Eddie in exchange for going to bed at 11 on a Friday night like real winners!

Saturday morning Eddie woke up at the crack of dawn and decided to be extremely domesticated. Before I even woke up he managed to mow the lawn, take Blair on a walk and clean the house. I didn’t even have to lay a finger on a cleaning cloth or piece of dirty laundry this weekend so that was nice. While he was running around cleaning I was cuddled up on the couch reading The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter. I’ll just go ahead and say I love this book and I’ll give more details on next months book review.

Once afternoon rolled around my sister got off work and headed over to spend the day with us. We made plans to go to the lake and visit a secret speakeasy in Minneapolis… but that all went out the window when I decided I didn’t want to get my ass off the couch. So instead Eddie made a run to the grocery store and picked up wine, cheeses to snack on and a large variety of cheesecake. We all cuddled up on the couch and spent the night laughing, drinking wine and watching movies all night!

We were determined to be a little more productive Sunday so we woke up and headed out for brunch and bottomless mimosas. FYI the midday binge drinking led to an extremely unproductive afternoon where we all found ourselves on the couch again. I’m telling you… this weekend was a real rager.

CURRENT THOUGHTS:

Reading: So I did my monthly book review last Wednesday and since then I’ve already read two books so I’m basically winning at life. Even though I read constantly I am still 9 books behind my reading goal for 2017  so if you have some book recommendations I would love to hear them!

Waiting: For these damn heat waves to go away. It’s supposed to be fall damnit yet it was 90 degrees this weekend. My fear is that we won’t really get to experience fall this year and we’ll just head straight into winter which would not be ideal. However, October is almost here and I have some fun weekend trips planned throughout the month!

Sounds like a great weekend to me! I am loving the heat wave here in Chicago but I am also worried we will end up skipping fall and going straight to freezing.

I love this post, I love your blog, and i love the way you displayed the items you are coveting! What program do you use to d that? is it a plugin? Oh, and for book recommendations, I suggest one called Living life while squeezing lemons. It’s sold on amazon and its by bloggers jo and Leisa of joleisa.com

That’s great that you have a reading goal for this year as well, I wish you luck with that! The pasta sounds delicious, someone who can cook is always a catch. Also, this photo is beautiful. So simple but such a stunning view xx
