Yes, I know it’s not Monday, but please let me explain. I tried my very hardest to write this article yesterday, I did, but at the last-minute I was tasked with watching my nephew. And just so you know, nine-year-olds don’t want to be quiet and leave you alone for a bit so you can write; they want you to be the life of the party and throw an epic rave (his words exactly). We should never have taught him what a rave is, but that’s a story for another time.
I thought I could power through the day like normal but I woke up a 6 am for his arrival, and by the time I pulled out my laptop, he was running through the house screaming while three dogs were chasing him. Every time I’d say, “Dev, can you give me a minute?” He’d say, “Aunt Allie, can you stop being so boring for a minute?” Real smart ass that one is (I’m actually quite proud). Basically, yesterday I sacrificed myself to a tiny human and did whatever he wanted, but I’m back on track now.
THINGS I’M READING AROUND THE WEB:
Now that summer is here, we’re grilling out almost every night that it’s not raining. I don’t know if it’s the long summer nights and fun times, but my sweet tooth has taken over and I’ve been craving dessert too. I stumbled upon this fresh strawberry cobbler recipe and I am excited to try it out! I’ll let you know how it goes!
This morning I read Sarah’s post Old School Blogging and Instagramming. Basically, everything she said is why I did my re-brand. I got sucked into the constant marketing and sponsored posts and I felt… so uninspired. Her post is a great read so go check it out for yourself!
I was reading through Create & Cultivate the other day and I stumbled upon their classified section where they have job listings from amazing companies all over the country. If you’re looking for a new job or some inspiration you should go check it out!
This weekend Edward and I spent like seven hours (yes… seven) at an outdoor patio in Minneapolis. We shared a few appetizers and had a few drinks and just talked. It was nice to just relax outside and catch up with each other and have a few talks about our future that we had been holding off on. Like when will we start to have kids and if we’re going to stay in Minneapolis should we buy a house? Also why he keeps talking about wanting to be an author but hasn’t sat down to write a damn book yet. (#procrastinationatitsfinest).
Saturday was spent celebrating my upcoming birthday with my nephew, my sister, and her boyfriend. My nephew will be away at his dad’s on my birthday and the following weekend so I wanted to make sure to get some time in with him to celebrate. We went to Lake Como and had a few drinks and some snacks and he somehow talked us into renting a four person bike. It was 90 degrees out and I had just downed two beers and a foot long hot dog, but I was determined to make him happy. The first lap was fun and exciting. The second lap was the most miserable moment of my whole life. After the bike ride from hell we headed home and all cleaned up for dinner. Our evening was spent at Surly Brewery and I have to say it was absolutely delicious and we all had a fun time.
Sunday was spent having a few beers and Mexican for lunch before we spent the afternoon running errands and doing a little shopping. Overall, I would have to say it was a low key but extremely fun and rewarding weekend.
Feeling: I’m feeling like maybe seasonal depression really crept up on me this year without my knowledge. If you’ve been here for a while you know I’ve been pretty open about my fight with depression and anxiety. This past November I was hit hard with a bout of depression that I couldn’t seem to shake until May. With this warm weather (which – I usually hate the heat) I am finding myself out of the house and in a good mood all the time. Now, I’m not saying seasonal depression was the only thing that had me down for so long. but I do think it played a part.
Bookmarking: I’ve been looking for some yummy but EASY summer drinks to make.
Enjoying: My nephew is out of school now and I’ve found myself being able to spend more quality time with him and my sister.
