6 Easy Hairstyles For When You’re Traveling

Summer is coming which, for me, means I have less time to spend on getting ready because I’m so excited to head outside. Here are six styles that will help keep your hair on point for any occasion; from taking a hike in the woods, splashing around in the ocean, or really just trying to keep from having a heat stroke. Bonus: these are all heat free hairstyles to help you keep your hair strong and healthy!

Easy Low Bun

This is perfect on a dirty hair day. Use some dry shampoo and these clips. I found them years ago and they are a lifesaver. I have really long thick hair so it is hard for me to maintain an updo without it falling apart 30 minutes later. Make sure to pick some up and try out this beyond simple tutorial.  (tutorial via: Anne Sage )

Twisted Side Braid

I love rocking a braid. For me, the most irritating part is when it starts coming undone so I just spend the whole day looking forward and trying not to move around a lot just to help keep my hairstyle in place. Not to worry! Julia has come to the rescue with an amazing “double” twisted side braid. I tried this the other day and it was amazing; I wasn’t forced to re-do my braid 5 times that day. Just make sure to get this texturizer and a great hairspray!  (tutorial via: Gal Meets Glam)

Head Scarf

I won’t lie…  it did take me awhile to figure out how to wear this style without looking like an idiot. It’s not for everyone but I say… give it a try. It’s great for summer days and to add a little flare to your outfit. (tutorial via: Keiko Lynn)

Beach Waves

I die for sea salt spray! This is, by far, the easiest hairstyle in my opinion. Whether you’ve just spent the day at the beach or you’re just in a hurry to get out the door, comb through your hair, add a little spray, and head out the door. I love how my hair ends up looking different every time I do this style. I only wish I could pull it off in the winter as well!  (tutorial via: Barefoot Blonde)

Half Knot

This is one of my go-to’s when traveling and in my everyday life. It’s so simple and chic. It’s a go-to for me when I want to stay away from the straightener or curling iron. Put in some texturizer and twist up some hair, pin it back, and head out the door. (tutorial via: Treasure and Travels)

I honestly wear a hat almost every day during the summer. When you’re in a hurry or having a bad hair day, whether you’re dealing with grease or frizziness just brush through your hair, add a little texturizer, and throw on your favorite hat. (via: a Pair & a Spare)

Ahhh, I want to try those little spiral pins! And I’ve never been one to pull of a scarf, but may as well give it a shot. I’m going to Asheville for a few days in May so I’ll have to come back to this post 🙂

We are heading to Asheville this summer as well! The spirals are the best, I have a ton of them and use them for so many hairstyles. Sometimes I look great in the scarf.. other times not so much. But I use the style more on rainy days.

Love this! These are also great for when you’re running to an early morning class! 🙂

Very true! I can leave the house with no makeup but never with messy hair.

Jackie @ My Sort Of Adult Life

Love these! I need to try those pins because it’s so hard to get an updo to work for me!

It was really hard for me too. You’ll probably have to get two packs but you’ll be amazed at how well they work. You’ll be able to do so many new styles.

I love this post! Great tips! 🙂 I always have a hard time fixing my hair when I’m traveling.

Thank you! I’m always so excited to get out the door so I never like to spend a lot of time getting my hair styled.

Autumn | Stay gold Autumn

I do the sun hat thing a lot when I travel, but I really need to try out this head scarf thing!!

Love hats! I have a huge collection. The headscarf is worth the try. If you try it let me know how it goes!

Natasha Kingsbury

I’ve been hesitant to try the head scarf… it always looks so nice when I see someone rocking it! I feel like I should give it a try… I’m going to the east coast for a few weeks this summer and my hair cannot handle that humidity! Thanks for sharing!

That seems to be what everyone says. It took me awhile to give it a try, but it’s great on… really hot days, rainy days, or when your hair frizzes up. I’ve lived on the east coast my whole life and my hair still hasn’t learned to work with the humidity! Where are you is your trip taking you?

Vicki Wilde

I love air-dried hair for traveling. It gives my hair a vacation from heat styling and saves me time! Otherwise, the hat style is totally the go to!

Me too! I love any hairstyle that is heat free. I have such long hair that it takes forever to style it. So glad you found your way to my site!

I’ve been trying to grow my hair out FOREVER, so I cannot wait till I can do all these fun things again!

I haven’t cut mine since August 2015. It’s grown 6 inches. My secret is I stay away from heat as much as I can. I only blow dry my hair for special occasion. What hairstyles do you do with your hair now?

Linda @ themurphmans

Ahh I’ve seen those pins in so many shops and just need to try them out!! My hair is insanely thick and they look like they either a) will be lifesavers, or b) will get so tangled up that I’ll have to cut off six inches just to get them out! haha. Also, these hairstyles are awesome, unless I live somewhere super humid, and then I have to have my hair up. In Europe I wore my hair down a ton, trying out all kinds of cute styles, but here in SE Asia, it’s sadly up in the same two up-dos or braids each day 🙁 You’re inspiring me to research some new styles that would be off my neck though!!

Get them! Mine is the same. I won’t lie.. they have gotten tangled in my hair before but I’ve never had to cut them out. My hair was always so pretty in Europe. I don’t know if it’s something in the water.. but I never dried or styled (straightened) my hair there and it always looked adorable. I’ve been growing my hair back out and haven’t cut it since August 2015 ( grew 6 inches) and it’s gotten so much thicker so I am forced to find creative ways to wear it otherwise it’s always in my way.

Beach waves are my favorite traveling go to!

The Sicilian Swede

These are all soo cute! I think the hat is my favorite! Adds some excitement to your look and you don’t have to do anything to your hair! So easy. Thanks for sharing all these looks!

Francesca Collins

Love these ideas! The only one that wouldn’t work for me is the headband… they always slip off my head, even when anchored down with bobby pins! Hahhaa!!

    Kristen Berryhill

Just about to post above you when I read your comment. Check out ‘Hipsy’ headbands on amazon! I have the same issue and these are adjustable and worked perfectly for me! I ended up getting the largest pack they had! So cute too!

I love all of these! I just changed my hair color for the first time ever (25 years) and I am looking for all the ways to fix it up. But given I’m not used to high maintenance these are adorable, easy tricks to ease me in! Thanks!

When I am really tired, I french braid my hair at night after washing and all I have to do is undo and go in the morning for waves!

I love the low bun! I usually travel with my hair fixed in a messy bun. Quick, easy, and cute!

a braid, a bun or a high ponytail are my go-to hairstyles for travelling.
